The Bob Rumball Long Term Care Home for the Deaf
The Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf is the only Long Term Care facility in Canada which is specifically designed to meet the needs of Deaf seniors. Emphasis is placed on communication and eliminating the isolation many Deaf seniors experience. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life and self-determination of Deaf seniors. We believe in ensuring a unique environment which promotes and preserves Deaf culture, language and heritage.
Activities
Our program department is creatively involved in meeting the social and recreational needs of residents through a variety of activities. These include daily opportunities for community such as cards and bingo, speakers, communal dining nights and social teas,
Outdoor activities include a walking club and flower and vegetable gardening, and exercise programs ensure that our residents remain active and increase flexibility and muscle tone. Relaxation is also encouraged in our salon and spa.
Our on-site Snoezlen Room stimulates our seniors’ senses through the use of light, colour, and tactile elements. In summer, our scented garden also provides sensory stimulation.

We also make sure our seniors have access to the larger community through trips and outings. Some examples of past social outings include:
  • Ferry Tour of Kempenfelt Bay
  • Remembrance Day Ceremony in Downtown Barrie
  • Shopping trips
  • Zoo
  • Local parks
  • Bowling
  • South Simcoe Steam Train
  • Scenic Drives
